You’re Not As Good As You Think You Are You’re Better!
You’re Not As Good As You Think You Are… You’re Better!
By Nick Della Valle
It starts as soon as we’re born and continues for the next two or three years. It’s branding at its best!
The father lovingly touches the child and say’s her name. He then points to himself and says “Daddy.” This scene is repeated over and over by both parents until the child knows which adult is Mommy, which is Daddy and what her own name is.
It seems harmless enough. I mean spaced repetition is one of the ways we learn. It’s certainly not wrong but… it does leave us with an incomplete view of who we are. We grow up thinking that we are the physical body. We focus on our five physical senses, measuring and comparing ourselves by what we see, hear, touch, taste and smell. Our thoughts are dominated by what is on the outside of us and yet…
JESUS tells us “…the kingdom of GOD is within you” (Luke 17:20-21). He tells us earlier in that same book (10:19) that He has given us “authority” and “nothing will harm you.” We learn we are more than a body. We cannot be harmed because we are not the body alone!
Scripture tells us that we are created in the image of GOD and that GOD is a Spirit. Because we are spirits, we are more powerful than we realize. The thoughts we think, and the words we speak create our circumstances; our world. The bad news is that makes us, at least in part, responsible for whatever state we find ourselves in. The good news is that if we don’t like our environment or circumstances, we have the authority to change it! We are more than our physical bodies! We are everything that we observe on the outside and all that we don’t see on the inside. We have the kingdom of GOD within us!
Whatever you think you are… you are more.
However good you think you are… you are better!
